Defining the characteristics of a project
- We discussed earlier how not every job is a project, for example, if you're producing a newscast, there are a lot of things that are very functional that just keep happening the same way day to day, but with a project there's some variation. So what are the characteristics of a project? First up, a project has to have a purpose. Nobody initiates a creative project without some outcome that they're trying to achieve. Projects are also temporary, meaning that they have a beginning and an end. They are initiated, given funds and people, and resources, and then once the deliverables are delivered, the project ends. Typically with a project there are unique aspects to the deliverable, so while you might have some things that are similar or part of a big set, like multiple episodes in a TV series, each of these is unique and has differences between them.
