- Now that we're ready to dive into the course, let's get started by briefly covering what a webcast or livestream is, and how it works. According to Webipedia, a webcast is a video presentation distributed over the internet using streaming media technology. Live video streams feature a single audio/visual source delivered to many simultaneous viewers. In a nutshell, it works just like your local television station, but instead of broadcasting over the airwaves, you're broadcasting over the internet. To deliver a live video stream over the internet, you need to connect your camera or audio/video feed to what's called a content delivery network, or for short, CDN. What exactly is a CDN? For streaming video, it's a system of distributed servers that deliver content to the audience based on their geographic location and the location of the content delivery server.
