Diffusing light

- Earlier, we looked at hard light and soft light. In this tutorial we're going to look at methods to use to diffuse light, or, in other words, to make it softer. Now, I can't speak to all indie film sets, but from my experience, making light softer takes up a large portion of the shoot day. So find the method that works best for your gear and shooting needs. The first way to make soft light is, of course, to, just, use soft lights, fluorescents, LEDs, lanterns, or whatever. And I get that might not be feasible, but if you find yourself constantly needing softer light it might be worth it to buy, or rent, softer light sources. Barring that, one of the most common tricks I use is just to clamp diffusion onto the front of a light. Diffusion is kind of like this paper light thing. It comes in big rolls, and you could usually get it at the local cinematography riddle house, or a camera shop, or you could even purchase it online.
