Downloading the Blackmagic Camera Utility software

- From time to time, Blackmagic releases software updates for cameras. Just like computers, cameras benefit from these software updates because they could do a variety of things, fix bugs in the camera, add new features, and improve compatibility or support for additional options as they're released. Maybe Blackmagic releases an accessory. Well, you might need to update the camera's firmware in order to take advantage of it. Or maybe they release an update to one piece of hardware like a switcher. Well, you might need to update the firmware on the camera to take advantage of that. In the past, this was a little bit tricky, but now Blackmagic has a dedicated utility to make this significantly easier. On your computer, navigate to the Blackmagic website, choose the Support tab. Then, scroll down to Professional Cameras and select the software update called Blackmagic Camera Update. Download the most recent version and you could choose for Mac or Windows. There is only one piece of software for all of the current Blackmagic Camera models. Once you've downloaded that, open up the disk image. You'll find the ability to install the camera update as well as the RAW SDK. I would suggest if you're going to work with the RAW footage you might as well install this on your computer as well. And let's install the camera software. It's also a good idea to download the instruction manuals here if needed, and you'll find manuals for each of the Blackmagic Cameras. Now, you can navigate to your Applications folder or click your Start menu. Find the Blackmagic Cameras folder and launch the Blackmagic Camera setup. At this point, it should say No camera or accessory found. Let's go on and move to checking the cameras for an update.
