Fixing contrast

- Contrast is the difference between the lightest and the darkest areas of an image. And an image is said to have good contrast when you can see a wider dynamic range with brighter highlights and richer shadows. Now, one of the ways to view this is to bring up the histogram. This will help you really judge what's happening with the image. I'm going to pull this off here and in fact, expand it a bit. From the popup menu here, I could choose the expanded view to better see things or even the All Channels view to see what's happening. This image has pretty good dynamic range. But you notice that there's this really big dip here in the middle where a lot of data is being lost. Let's add an adjustment layer here for levels. And I'll click Auto. And it did a decent job of balancing that out. The problem though is that it created a new color cast, so I'm going to choose auto here and tell it to fix the per channel…
