One of the reasons models and celebrities look so perfect is because they have a lighting crew. I once interviewed Victoria's Secret Angel, Martha Hunt, and she had a crew member whose only job was to make sure she was properly illuminated. That being said, even if you don't have a lighting assistant, you can still record great video. Our faces have curvature and contours and depth. This means that the direction of your light source will affect the shadows cast on your face. If you have deeper set eyes, a light source from above will make yours appear dark.
