- Fortunately along with the ever-growing advancement of deepfake creation technology is the continued advancement of deepfake detection technology, which can help identify and deter malicious deepfakes across social media. That means that there are always strong efforts to make sure that we have methods in place to spot and stop deepfakes before they can cause damage. Let's talk a bit about detection. Now, early deepfake videos in 2017 and 2018, were pretty much always able to be detected by humans. They exhibited some clear abnormalities, like small video glitches and flickers, inconsistencies in image blending, peculiar eye and mouth movements, bad lip sync, lack of blinking, jerkiness, and more. Also finer details such as strange variations in lighting and shadows, inconsistencies in skin tone, strands of hair and the glinting off jewelry eyes or teeth can be difficult for deepfake to get right.
