- I think it's really important to take the time to research what kind of locations you need. I know it sounds weird to research, but you need to know who you're doing this video for, and you need to match what you want out of your production. So, first, research your subject matter a little bit. You want to match your subject matter and location so they accentuate what you're trying to say. So I did this documentary series about this ice skater. All her interviews, I placed her in a place where there was a bunch of ice skates in the background, and it really let you go into her environment like you're a guest in her world. Instead, if I would've put her in a library, it probably wouldn't have given you that same in her world feeling. If your production is about a product, a person, or maybe a company, you need to make sure you understand their branding. I always try to find a location that helps accentuate the brand.…
