- Before any webcast, a site survey is essential. You need to know both the physical and IT environment you'll be operating in. On your site survey, a meeting with IT to confirm connectivity and upload speed is the first task at hand. Once you've confirmed connectivity is satisfactory, you need to look next at the electrical features of the space. Are there enough power drops for your equipment? Are they located in the areas you'll be working in? Equally important, are there multiple circuits in the room to distribute your electrical draw? This is critical if you're running a switcher and coder, multiple computers, an audio console, and especially high wattage incandescent lighting. Most venues, as well as event and production companies, still use multiple 750 to 1000 watt stage lights because of their ability to illuminate large areas, and with cameras requiring this amount of light, a high electrical draw is unavoidable.
