The Lens Blur effect in After Effects

- After Effects and Photoshop have many similarities. In fact, several of the tools that appear in one can be found in the other. Some folks like to refer to After Effects as Photoshop with a timeline. Now, let me show you what's possible here when we bring in the depth mat that we made in Photoshop and we combine it with the footage. I've already set up a basic project that has the depth mat overlaid on top of the video footage. And you can see there where the dishes are lining up with the footage that we created. What I want to do here is just duplicate this first sequence, so you can look at it and compare the two. Now, let's select the footage layer and from the Effects menu, I'll choose Blur, Camera Lens Blur. Now what you need to do is target the layer for the depth matte. It's referred to here as a blur map but a depth map or a depth mat is often the same thing. Pick the layer. Now, feel free to increase…
