Making things perfectly imperfect

- In the last tutorial, we looked at how to make composites more realistic, by approximating realism. In this tutorial, I thought it might be a good idea to cover another foundational concept when dealing with computer generated images, that of imperfection. When creating digital assets or composites, many new CG artists and compositors don't realize that nothing is that perfect in real life. Nothing is perfectly clean, nothing has perfectly sharp edges, nothing is perfectly reflective. And yet when making stuff on the computer, things are often too perfect like this when they're first created. So things kind of have to be like, banged up a little to look a little bit more believable. Let's look at a photo. Now, let's like, really look at it. Initially your eyes will just see the overall thing. This school, for example, just seems meticulous, and flawless, it's geometric and it's sturdy.
