- Being able to safely operate the sUAS relies on many things, but among them is the physical and mental capabilities of the remote pilot in command, the person manipulating the controls, the visual observer, and any other direct participant in the sUAS operation. Some obvious examples of physical or mental incapacitations that could render you or anyone in your crew incapable of performing sUAS duties include. Loss of dexterity, the inability to see and avoid. The inability to maintain situational awareness. A debilitating physical condition. A hearing or speaking impairment. If this is the case implement and alternative. And let's talk a little about alcohol and prescription, or non-prescription drugs. You may not operate the sUAS if you have consumed any alcoholic beverages within the preceding eight hours. Eight hours from bottle to throttle.
