- One of the things about video production is it's really a team sport, and it takes a group of people to pull it off. Today, Amy and I are going to share with you a lot of practical advice, but I thought it was important that you heard from multiple people. We're going to share a lot of different skills with you. And I've known Amy for a long time. Amy, you and I have worked on a wide range of corporate productions, and I know we both enjoy this type of production. Why do you like corporate production so much? - Well, first of all, I want to say the term corporate production, it really means broadly, any kind of production about an organization. It doesn't have to be incorporated as a for-profit, it could be a non-profit, it could be a lot of different things, a foundation, whatever, but we're going to use that term corporate video production. And one of the reasons I really like it, is because you're having the challenge of telling the story of an institution. And of course, there're people through which you tell that story, you might see the organization through the lens of different people or the impact it has, the products or services that it creates. But it's kind of a challenge to create a story that's compelling, when it's about an institution or organization. - One of the things that I like, Amy, is that with corporate productions, it actually matters. And what I mean by that, is a good video could mean a lot of different outcomes, helping the company grow their business, helping the organization serve their customers, making sure that people get the information that they need to get the most from a purchase, or to help that non-profit group. This is not just disposable entertainment. And it allows you to explore so many different things. What's often fun, is that we can touch on so many different genres within one project, or over the life of a relationship with a customer, there could be short form content like ads, and then there could be longer material where you're really doing in-depth training. It just allows you to have a lot of variety in your job. - It does. And we get to be really creative thinkers about how are we going to solve problems? How are we going to go into a working environment where there might be people doing their jobs, and make sure that we're telling a story without interfering with what it is they do every day? - And we know that every project and every company is a little bit different. You might have more people to work with or less, bigger budgets or simple. So, for this course, we're going to focus on practical techniques that will serve a wide variety of uses. And we're going to work with relatively small crew sizes, but whether you're a one person crew or a 10 person crew, all of the things you learn here are very applicable. And I think Amy, what I like about your approach, is you don't skimp on the pre-production, you make sure that there's a great plan in place. - It's really true Rich. And frankly, I've learned from some people that went before me, that good pre-production always pays off. It makes sure that you have more impact, you get to use your budget more wisely instead of frantically. And it gives you more options, more creative options when you get from pre-production all the way through production and into post-production. - Amy and I have worked on a wide range of productions for both for-profit and non-profit groups. And you're going to see things that just really, truly will help you out. - We're going to give you a little window into the field. We're going to bring you with us, with our crew out into a real location situation. We're not going to sugar coat it. There're things that didn't go perfectly. There're other things that we pre-plan that might happen, that did happen. And so that's the way it goes. And we're going to bring you along with us to let you see what it's really like to work on a corporate video in the real world. - So, let's get started and thanks for joining us.
