Minimizing blemishes

- Blemishes are just a fact of life. But did you know that your lighting can enhance or minimize facial blemishes? It's fascinating. Let's look at a somewhat humiliating example of this. This is a close-up of my very own face, where you can see all of my glorious imperfections. But notice the light. The lighting is directly from the side, and because it's coming from the side, it creates little pockets of shadow in my wrinkles and scars. And it's these shadows that really make my imperfections stick out. But now, watch what happens when we bring the light closer to where the camera is. Now, it's a less flattering angle, as far as the light goes, but because it's coming from the camera, it fills in the blemishes instead of creating shadows. This dramatically reduces the blemishes. You know, one of the shots in The Assurance that I wish, so badly, turned out better was the sick scene.
