Monitoring dynamic range and exposure
- As you work with a shot, it's often important to pay attention to the exposure and the dynamic range. And there are a few different tools to help you really see this. Now, you might have noticed that the camera gives us a histogram here on the back. This can be really helpful to judge exposure, and give you a little bit more information about how things are doing. So make sure you take advantage of that. So let's go ahead over here and adjust the iris. And you see how that histogram is adjusting as we make the change. Now in this particular case, I can see from the histogram when we're wide open here that it's pretty overexposed. So I'm going to back that off slightly. And that helps quite a bit. Remember, as you're working, you can also take a look at different overlays. So if we go on into the camera menu settings here, we have the ability to control what's shown on the LCD, as well as what's output over the HDMI, and some controls for both.
