Organizing interviews

- Interviews are among the most important part of so many documentaries. They provide information, emotion, tone, and context, and if the producer and director did their jobs, you've got a whole lot of great material to work with. Now as the editor, you've got to figure out which moments within these hours and hours of interview footage are worthy to explore further and incorporate into the film. To find this out, you've got to watch every interview in its entirety and add meticulous notes so that you can later quickly find any sound bite. This is most often accomplished through adding valuable metadata to your clips. First, before you begin adding metadata, you should decide upon some general keywords that you'll likely be able to come back to again and again. And it's good to relate these keywords back to the major themes of the film.
