Overview of lighting situations

- Knowing what and where you'll be using your lights is a great question to ask yourself when looking at purchasing lights for video production! In this chapter, I'm going to break down three situations. When the lights are close to the subject, when they're farther away, and when you need to go portable. First I want to explain a very important aspect of lighting, color temperature. When choosing video lights, you have different color temperature options. Color temperature is a way to describe the light's appearance that is provided by a light bulb. It is measured in degrees of Kelvin, or K, on a scale from 1,000 to 10,000. The warmer color is referred to as tungsten and it has a rating on the Kelvin scale of 3,200K. As you move up the scale, the color gets cooler. This is referred to as daylight, and the most common color for video lights that are daylight is 5,600K. You'll see variations of this.
