Placing the vector logo

- Earlier you saw the place command use to bring in a raw file. Well, it could actually be used with a wide range of Adobe formats, including vector graphics. To do this just choose file, place. And I recommend you stick with the embedded option. Now you can navigate to the graphic. I'll go here to exercise files and go to the place vector logo. What I can now do is select it. This is a .ai file, which is an Adobe illustrator file and I'll click place. Now you see it gives us the ability to open this as a smart object. You could choose to take the whole page or just the image itself, or a 3D object, usually though it's going to be page. Click the okay button and it will be added. Now you get the ability to scale this. Again, by default, it's going to be constrained. So the width and height transform universally. You can place this so it's easy to read. I would suggest that you keep the text for HD inside this outer most box. But if you want to drop that down a little bit there for example, I can do so. And the circle will start to go off the edge of the screen. While I click return or enter it's rasterized. But as you see here, it's still vector. So if I press command or Ctrl + T for free transform, I could change the size. And it still reads in that full vector data which means that you have flexibility as you're working to resize or change it as needed and it will keep updating and it stays nice and crisp. Additionally, since this is embedded, you can use that same layer, smart objects command. And if ever needed, you can actually export out the contents. This would give you the ability to save that file back out. And if necessary, you can actually go in and use the smart objects in choose to relink. So if you needed to swap it and point it at a new version of a logo or one that was totally different, you can easily swap out your design and change what this layer is pointed towards.
