Preparing to shoot

- There are a lot of things you should make sure to do and go over with your talent before beginning to shoot a scene. By now hopefully you've had at least some meetings and quality rehearsals with your actors. And this is your opportunity to reinforce the content of those meetings. If you haven't, you'll need to make up for the lost time as best as you can. One of the first things you're going to do on set is actually take some time and check in with your actors. Talk to them a little bit even if they're in the minorest of roles. At least say hi. An actor I worked with said, "When I've not gotten a chance to get a feel for the director, it can be just that much harder to sync up with what's needed. I know everybody doesn't like making a new best friend on a one-day shoot. But considering how important communication is when that's the main deal for the day, it's always easier to spend a few minutes at the top so when the hurdle comes later, we can work together to get over it."
