Preproduction of corporate videos

- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington. - And I'm Amy DeLouise. And this is Corporate Video Essentials. And we're going to look today at pre-production. - The pre-production process is very important because it allows you to create a functional plan for your project. We're going to kick things off by talking about scoping the project. The scoping stage is really important because this is where you build out a plan. We'll review things like making sure you have a technical and a creative brief, so everyone's on the same page, as well as identifying some of your early important concepts that are going to go into the final production. We're also going to take a look at super practical things like making sure you have a working budget and a schedule. - We're going to talk about finding your story. That means defining your message goals, doing your research, doing some pre-interviews, the role of the script treatment, and how to create a shooting script. - [Rich] We're going to address what you need to do to be ready with your crew. This'll start by identifying what type of crew people you need for the production itself. We'll then move on to putting together a day of shoot schedule. There's a lot of things to plan for and you might have a complex schedule where different people arrive at different times based upon their role or the subject you're interviewing has different scheduling needs. We'll talk about some of the essential items that you're going to want to put into your packing list and the importance of using the list itself, and you'll learn some practical advice for location scouting so that you could build out a good plan and know what to expect when you arrive on the day of shoot. The location scout is something you ideally do in advance in person if possible, and it really gives you good intelligence about the shooting location. - [Amy] Then we'll transition into production, including how to prepare your crew call sheet and when it's appropriate to prepare other call sheets, for example, for your talent. - The whole goal here is that you have effective pre-production to pull off the best video project, and this is the part that most people skip, so we're really excited that you're here, and you're going to get a lot of practical advice.
