Radio frequency spectrum

- The radio frequency spectrum that we use for communication with remote radio controllers to the aircraft is essential. If there are any interruptions or interferences there could be a lost link between the controller and the aircraft and that could result in a flyaway. That is never good news. It is our responsibility as remote pilots in command to do our best to determine that our radio frequencies are free and clear of interference. Most small unmanned aircraft use radio frequencies to establish the data link between the control station and the drone. Considerations for radio frequencies include: frequency interference, and line of sight obstructions. The most commonly used small unmanned aircraft frequencies are 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz. These bands area also used for computer wireless networks, therefore frequency interference can cause problems in areas with many wireless signals. In such places you could get a lost link…
