- You just learned a lot about lights and maybe you want to try a few different types out before you buy. Well, a great option is renting. This way, you can see for yourself how they'll fit in with the type of work that you do. You might only need a 2K once in your life. So why buy one, right? There's a couple of great online sources like borrowlenses.com or lensrentals.com. But if you could rent local I think it's a great idea. Your local camera store is a good place to start but a proper video production rental house is a fantastic resource. They really know their stuff. Talk with the agent about what you're shooting and ask a lot of questions about what they have to help your production. They may be able to offer gear that you don't even know about. Also, light kits are heavy and renting online could be more expensive due to shipping charges.
