- The producer's main roles during a production day are to ensure everyone has what they need to do their work, keep the project moving on schedule, ensures the overall vision of the project is maintained, and most of all, solve problems quickly. If you ask the crew what your job is, they would probably say stay out of the way. First of all, don't hover. There's nothing worse than being on a set with a producer who hovers. Always moving around, always making sure that everyone is working as quickly as they can, offering input and advice, where it's not wanted and generally being a nuisance to the crew. Yes, you are there to keep the project on schedule, and the way you do that is let the crew do their work. Look if you feel something is slowing the day down, or it's just not correct, speak to the director or director of photography.
