- It's time we finally exposed the final exposure topic, ISO. Unlike in photography, when you're shooting video, you can't just change your shutter speed and aperture willy-nilly. After all, your shutter speed is set to double your frame rate, and your aperture is set to give you a nice shallow depth of the field. So what do you do when you look down at your camera's exposure meter and realize, gasp! This shot is overexposed or underexposed. Well, that's where ISO comes in handy. ISO is, well, complicated, but basically similar to your aperture and shutter speed, ISO determines how sensitive your camera is to light. The higher the ISO the more light sensitivity, which means you can expose better in lower light situations. Well, the lower the ISO, the less sensitivity to light, which means you need a lot more light to expose correctly.
