- When you need a strong fill light, then a hard surface board is really great. Solid hard surface bounce boards from Matthew's Grip are my favorite. They're called expendable bounce boards, but don't let the name fool you. Trust me, they are far from it. I have some that are at least 10 years old. Store them correctly, and they will last. These bounce boards are big and solid, so they do require a mounting system. Matthew's has two options. A pivoting yoke like the one we have here, or a Polito bracket that slides over the board and attaches to a stand with a grip head. The expendable boards can easily be hand-held too if needed. I wouldn't want to hold it for long periods of time. Best to mount them on a stand with a sand bag on the leg. Matthew's Expendables have two sides with different types of reflective finishes on each. I like the silver fill model the best. That's the one closest to me here.
