- Audio for small screens is critical. When recording dialogue, I always opt for coverage with both boom and lavalier microphones whenever possible. That's because I like to control the mix for different delivery platforms. For smaller devices, I might want a little more of that lav mic because it's frankly a cleaner sound, a little more isolated from ancillary sounds and therefore easier to hear on poor speakers or earbuds or frankly, just with lots of ambient sound around the listener. Now, for a big room experience, I might wanna add in some of that boom audio for a more natural room sound. In a web or small surface mix, you also are gonna wanna eliminate some of the dynamic range, that means eliminating overly complex audio layering like too many sound effects. You'll also want to be sure that both music and voices are present even if only one channel is being listened to. We call this mono-compatible mix because so many people listen to content either with just one earbud or…
