Storms and hazards

- A storm is a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow. We need to be especially vigilant when there is a possibility of a storm, as flying in one could be dangerous to the aircraft, property, and even to people. A thunderstorm has three distinct stages. These are cumulus, mature, and dissipating. A storm begins with the cumulus stage, in which the lifting action of the air begins. If we have enough moisture and instability, the clouds continue to increase in vertical height. The continuous strong updrafts prohibit moisture from falling. Then the thunderstorm reaches the mature stage, which is the most violent time period of the thunderstorm's life cycle. Rain or hail begin to fall and this creates a downward motion of the air.
