From the course: Social Media Video Strategy: Weekly Bites

Transforming images into video

- If you've got a lot of great photographs, graphics, or other still images in your arsenal, you can easily transform them into a dynamic social media video. And since video consistently sees much greater social engagement than photos, converting stills into video can be a really smart strategy. There are many different ways to approach this visual transformation of assets. Many of which allow you to incorporate branding, storytelling, and other targeted marketing tactics. Probably the most basic and most obvious method is the standard slideshow. This is a quick and easy way for you to capitalize on the power of video as you organize your stills in a linear format to tell a story with pictures. You can easily do this using basic presentation tools or video editing software, or you can use one of the many online slideshow creation tools, most of which are geared toward creating dynamic, branded videos for social media. A popular option is Animoto, which allows you to choose themes and templates, add your images and other media, customize text, change colors and fonts, record voiceover, add music and more. Arranging your images in this type of packaged, storyboard fashion is a popular go-to method of video creation and you end up with a more polished result than a standard slideshow. Here are some other popular storyboard-style slideshow makers that you can try out, as well. And here's a basic video slideshow that I made using Animoto. (upbeat music) Another option for interesting image-based video creation is the collage or mosaic, which feature multiple photos on screen simultaneously. This allows you to communicate more visual information at once and it also lets you draw psychological references between images in a way that linear assembly doesn't. Here are a number of popular collage makers that you can try out, which also offer some nice, polished looks and packaged styles. And here's an animated video collage that I made with the same photos using Kizoa Collage Maker. (soft music) You can see that the visual aesthetic is a definitely a bit different, less storytelling, more impressions. So depending on your branding strategy, this could be a nice option. You may also want to feature animation in your image design. Animation is dynamic, eye-catching, and sparks audience engagement. And fortunately, there are a number of apps that make it easy. There are simple animations that you can do with text. For example, with Promo, you're able to drop in and animate different text elements to elevate your brand messaging. Or with programs like Ripl, you can use templates and themes and drop your images into more complex designs. Now remember, as you make the photo to video conversion, you need to be mindful of video best practices so your message isn't lost on your audience. This means your video needs to lead with a strong hook. Begin with your most engaging content and include your brand identity right off the bat. Be sure to make your videos attention grabbing and include enough text and integrated storytelling so that they are able to be experienced without sound. If you are able to do all of that, your photos turned to video will resonate on social media and you'll be able to take advantage of the incredible power of video social media marketing.
