Understanding focal length and lens properties
- [Instructor] In the previous courses on cinematography and directing, we talked about lenses, and how lenses all have kind of unique properties about them. And so then, as a visual effects artist, it's kind of your job to be aware of those lens properties because then you'll have to replicate those effects in the visual effects, and then in the compositing as well. So for example, in the finale sequence here, we have different shot sizes, and I use different lenses for those shot sizes. I tried to shoot it just like I would a regular scene, so we have like a wide shot, an extreme closeup shot, an insert shot and, and a full shot, and a medium closeup here. And then later we had this like, extreme wide shot here. And so then, as I went through all these different shots, I had to know what the lens was that I used to shoot it, and then try to make the background and the other elements of the shot match what the scene would've looked like with this lens, had those visual effects…
