Understanding resolution
- When it comes to video graphics, a lot of folks get confused about resolution, that's because they get used to hearing terms like DPI which stands for dots per inch, which is really a printing term or PPI, pixels per inch, which refers to how many pixels are packed under the screen. But the challenge is with video, there's so many varieties. You see, we can have something that is in high definition and put on a television set in a living room and it's really large. Then take that same content and put it on a smartphone or on an iPad screen or a computer. And the reality is, is that the graphic is changing size, because the delivery medium is changing size, but the same number of pixel stays the same. So when we're creating graphics for video, it's much more important to pay attention to things like the aspect ratio which is the shape and the total pixel count so that we have enough pixels to fill the screen.
