Using POV shots

- POV is short for point of view. So a POV shot is like seeing through the eyes of a character. This could be really effective way to help your audience experience what a character is going through. We used this on The Assurance when Korda'a was discovered. We wanted the audience to feel how intimidating it would be to be a little girl in this crowd. Now even though these people are adoring her, it's still kind of overwhelming to get swarmed like this. And shots from outside of this circle don't really give off this same impression. At least not in the same way. I also used this shot once for another movie I did where we shot from a monsters POV. To get this shot, we just put a DSLR on a monopod, held it really high in the air looking down. And then the camera operator ran through the forest and it kind of creates this effect of a towering menace. We see a similar effect all the time by big name filmmakers, too. Quentin Tarantino seems especially fond of using POV shots like this one…
