- A popular alternative to YouTube is Vimeo. Vimeo is a service that's very similar to YouTube, but instead of being ad supported, it's supported by its members. They do offer some free services for those of you who only need to occasionally post video, but the bulk of Vimeo's membership does pay an actual fee to use the service. It offers a lot of other advantages, including customization to the player and the ability to precisely control who has access and where the video can be shared. While YouTube does have some privacy controls, Vimeo is really built for those people who want to take more control. And, most importantly, it actually gives you the ability to have full control over the usage rights. Vimeo's terms of service simply state that if you delete it, it's off their servers and it's deleted, that anything you upload you own provided, of course, that you are the copyright holder.
