- We just took a look at YouTube and I'd like to go a bit deeper. By far, it's the most popular, adaptive player. The use of YouTube on mobile devices is quite good because it will support uploading up to a 4K quality file. Now, the amount of mobile devices that play 4K is pretty limited but we are seeing them beginning to emerge. Another thing to realize is that you should avoid interlacing in the file. Ideally, you'll shoot with a frame rate like 24p. Now, 1080p, 720p, the p stands for progressive. Avoid interlaced formats and you'll get higher quality web video. I recommend that 24p frame rate which will give you quicker times for the user to consume the content. Less frames will be able to deliver faster and spread the data rate out over fewer frames giving you better image quality. YouTube is going to make multiple versions when you upload the file. The benefit here is uploading that high quality 4K file and then allow it to make all the different flavors for mobile devices. But…
