- Pictures without sound tend to not be very popular. While folks can deal with shaky camera work, they're typically going to stop watching a production if they can't hear it. Using audio with video productions is really, really critical to storytelling, and there are many different ways to capture audio. Your Blackmagic camera likely includes a built-in microphone. Now, this microphone is pretty low when it comes to quality. After all, if you were having a phone conversation, you wouldn't put the phone receiver a good 20 feet away from the subject. But it is still important in that the microphone is built in, and if you have your camera, you have your mic. Plus, there are some situations where it comes in handy. Now, you'll notice, for example, right here on the front of the camera, that we have a built-in microphone for the URSA.
