Using a shotgun microphone for environment

(Relaxed music) - Another popular mic that you'll see used in interview setups is the shotgun microphone. And this is an example of a shotgun microphone. I also have one here on this camera. And, Ted, what is a shotgun, and why is it good for, you know, recording interviews? - [Ted] So, a shotgun microphone is a very directional microphone that you can plug in to either an audio recorder or your camera. - [Interviewer] Right. - [Ted] And what it'll do is, it'll isolate the person that's talking, and basically, help you focus in on their words. - Right, so- - And not hear all the stuff in the world around you. - Right, exactly. So, by directional, what we literally mean is what this is pointed at is where the audio's going to be recorded from. Things off to the side, in the back, those are kind of rejector, not picked up nearly as easily as what's in front of the microphone. So for recording an interview, that kind of makes sense, right?
