Using a slider

- Right before shooting The Assurance, I went out and bought this slider from Rhino. I really loved using this little piece of gear, it allows the camera to slide a little bit, which can simulate pushing in the camera or pulling it back, or sliding left and right. Most of the camera moves done in The Assurance were done using this little gem. Sliders are quick and easy to set up, which makes them less expensive to use. One of the only drawbacks is getting them sturdy enough. This particular slider has a couple holes for screws at the bottom, so you can attach light stands, give it more support, but that actually broke off one of the corner 20 screws off of our light stands, and when you just put it onto your tripod, it can easily tilt the tripod over as you can see here in this behind the scenes footage. Another downside is that you really don't have that much room to slide, which means that movements are more subtle, generally speaking. But other than those two things, I really love…
