- I'd like to walk you through a few software options available to make sure that your data is properly backed up. To start, let's just use the actual operating system. I'll walk you through both the Windows and Mac operating systems, and show you how you can use the built-in tools to copy data. Let's start with the Windows machine. Let's explore transferring the data from one card to a drive. First up, you'll want to locate the memory card in your operating system. It may appear in the sidebar or on the desktop. I recommend a right-click on the memory card, and choosing Copy, so you get the entire contents. Don't just back up individual folders. Now, switch to your archive drive. I'll make a new folder here, and we'll call this Transfer. I'll open this up, and make another folder, and label it. In this case, CAM_01, for the first camera on the shoot.
