Utilizing a switcher-encoder with expanded pro capabilities

- One tool we use for all our live productions is a switcher encoder, like this one here. This unit is made by Livestream, and it's called the HD550. It's a hardware based unit that functions like a portable video control room, but it's in a box. With units like these we can input multiple cameras via HDMI or SDI. Integrate laptops with presentation decks and live polling, as well as feed audio from a camera, mixer, or console. It can also serve up graphics like title slides and lower thirds over the video. As well as generate picture in picture feeds over a presentation slide or graphic. This powerful mini control room is essentially a computer, but it allows us to switch between camera sources, serve up graphics, video files, and then it encodes the program and uploads it to the CDN. One thing I really like about this unit is that we can either expand it to include additional monitors or take a more streamlined approach and use only the box itself.
