Waivers and Certificates of Authorization (COAs)

- Sometimes you want to do some things with your SUAS, but find that the rules will not allow you to. Well, sometimes it is possible to get a waiver, so that you can do some of these things even though the rules prohibit them. Remember that the FAA makes the rules thinking about safety, so if you can prove that you can be safe, chances are that you can get a waiver. However, not all of the rules are waivable. Some are very firm, and you will not be able to get a waiver for those. Your request for a Certificate of Waiver must contain a description of the requested waiver and a description of how safety will be maintained. The administrator may limit your request. Once you get the waiver, you may deviate from the regulations of this part, but you must comply with any conditions or limitations.
