- Hi, I'm Ashley Kennedy. Thank you for joining me in the second course in a series of three courses on making a documentary film. The first course, Documentary Video Planning and Pre-Production took you through the important steps necessary prior to shooting the documentary. In this course, Documentary Video Production, we're going to focus on the logistics behind the shoot itself so you can get the most out of a well-planned and well-executed documentary shoot. And the last course in this series is Documentary Video Editing and Post where we'll dive into the exciting process of editing the film. In each of these courses we'll be working toward the goal of making a short documentary for an organization called Project RELO, which is a non-profit whose mission it is to create networks that bring business executives and military veterans together in unique and challenging ways, and to educate Corporate America on the value that vets can bring to the workforce. The leaders of Project RELO are our clients, so we'll get the opportunity to talk about what it takes to make a documentary for someone else while exercising our own creative vision to the maximum of its potential. And specifically, in this course on production, we'll touch on important topics like how to make sure you're prepared for the shoot, as well as how to be an effective director, how to conduct great interviews and shoot valuable B roll and observational footage, and how to properly hand off the assets for post-production. I'll also invite you into plenty of intimate behind the scenes moments of the Project RELO documentary shoot, which takes place in both Chicago and the remote areas of northern Michigan.
