From the course: Freelance Work Strategies for Video and Motion Graphics Creators

Welcome

- Thanks for joining me. I'm Amy DeLouise, and I'm thrilled to bring you some of my top strategies for surviving and thriving as a self-employed creative video professional. I hope you'll take away some key tips for your business, as well as some day-to-day tactics that I think really work. We're going to cover getting started and the key attributes that I think you really need for success as a freelancer. We'll also talk about defining your brand, some business essentials, and then we'll get into strategies for growth. We'll also talk about managing relationships with clients and with other vendors. And then, that key chapter, setting and getting your rate, I know you want to hear about that. And finally, we're going to wrap up with a few tips about work life balance. Before we get started, I'll just tell you a little bit about myself. I've authored several other courses in this library, and I hope you'll take a look at those. And I also have a book out about working with real people on camera. But primarily I consider myself a digital storyteller. I've been a producer/director in short-form, nonfiction video for more years than I want to confess. And for most of that time, I've been self-employed, running various size companies. So I've been where you are or where you want to be, and I hope to share some of my personal strategies and tips for making it work as a freelancer.
