What is depth of field?
- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington. - And I'm Robbie Carman. - And this week we're talking about depth of field which is often used incorrectly. People say depth of field when they really mean shallow depth of field or they'll say extended depth of field thinking like, oh, I want more depth of field, somehow mistaking that for the blurriness. These two things are not the same, right? - [Robbie] Yeah, so I mean, obviously this is something that a lot of people talk about these days because the tools to achieve a very, you know, shallow depth of field, that's the dreamy part, the blurry background part, are pretty easy to do and it's kind of been this sort of unicorn that people have sought out over the past ten or fifteen years, DSLRs gave people their first taste of truly shallow depth of field when it comes to video.
