Where should you be as the interviewer?

- Your shot is framed. Your audio sounds good. Now where do you stand? You want to make sure your guest feels a connection with you. People like having a conversation. So looking at our frame here, Derek is sitting on the left side of frame. Ideally, you want him to look across frame at you. So his eyes are going to the side with more space. To achieve that, I'm standing on the opposite side of camera as him, on the right side. To get good placement for his eyes, you want to put your shoulder directly next to the camera. What this will do will allow him to have a connection with you, and still have a connection with your audience in the lens without looking directly into it.
