Working with log footage in an NLE

- In the field, we often shoot LOG with the Blackmagic cameras. I want to show you how this can be processed and handled very quickly. With the LOG file selected, simply enter your color correction tool. I'll do this in Premiere Pro. Now take a look at your scopes so you can get familiar with the footage. You'll see that the LOG footage really has the information condensed and that our darkest shadow doesn't approach zero for a pure black and the bright highlights are topping out around 80. Now, you may be able to use input LUTs and you can often find these available so you can quickly process. In this case, by default the Blackmagic ones are not included but you can browse and load them and find them available on Blackmagic's website. However, I'm a big fan of doing this the manual way because every shooting situation is a bit different.
