Your eyes are liars

- [Instructor] In this chapter, we're going to look at scopes. Aside from making your screen look super cool, because it's all complex and techie and stuff like something out of a sci-fi movie, scopes help you accurately gauge the colors of your image and we need scopes because our eyes are liars, filthy, rotten liars. Like, look at this optical illusion created by a neuroscientist, Edward Adelson. I think I'm saying that right, Adelson, probably. The two squares with A and B on them seem like two completely different colors, right? But in reality, they are the exact same color. You see, our perceptions of brightness and color changed so easily based on relative circumstances. So they can't be trusted. Regardless of how good your eyes or how skillfully your monitor is calibrated, you need to rely on scopes in order to get a good final image and to ensure that your colors are in acceptable ranges when they're shown…
