- No video production project would be complete without a shoot planning checklist. We will break all of these down in the next chapters of the course, but I just wanted to lay them out for your here. So before you shoot you want to have a clear understanding of your goals and the plan for what will happen to the video content once it's shot. You'll want to identify the audio and video acquisition specs you need including any metadata tags that should be consistent with others, if you're using multiple crews in different locations or maybe over a period of time. Another key technical spec is your final delivery file format as well as how your media will be backed up. Location planning is a key pre-production element as are insurance and other releases that might be needed. And of course prepping your on camera subjects in advance without over preparing them, we'll talk about that, will make your shoot go much more smoothly. Now on the day of your shoot you'll have some other logistics to confirm. Everything from loading and parking to signage, food and talent releases. We'll go over all of these in detail. The fact is there are many elements that happen during the day of a video taping that you just can't expect, and frankly can't control. Believe me, I've experienced them all. So the more prepared you are in terms of the elements you can control, the more smoothly your shoot will go.
