- Redundancy is the key to success when it comes to webcasts. So forgive me if I'm being a bit redundant when I reinforce that your live streaming effort is only as good as the pipeline you're working with. I place such a huge emphasis on this because this is your shows connection to the outside world. So let's review the minimum upload speeds you'll need to deliver a seamless program. For a 720p HD program, DaCast recommends five to eight megabytes per second. For a 1080p their minimum is also five to eight megabytes per second. Under these conditions, I recommend being a bit conservative and staying with 720p. If you only have a minimum of three megabytes per second to work with, DaCast recommends streaming in standard definition. This isn't optimal for the high definition world we all operate in, but, nonetheless, you will be streaming. At 500 kilobytes per second, Cast claims that's the lowest possible speed to stream at.
