(moderate beach rock music) - My name is Lindsey Mickelson. I am the owner of Mothersun and the Captain, and I make clothing and art products for the modern mother and her family. I grew up on the beach, it's my sanctuary. I can find healing, I can find inspiration. From that, I create products. These hats are really important to our family because we're in the sun, so I made hats for myself and I made hats for Soleil, my daughter. My goal at the time as a new mom was to be a part of the Normalize Breastfeeding Movement. Couldn't find any really cool tank tops that would do the trick, so I made my first batch for myself, and I thought, if I needed this, someone else needs it, too. I was doing something that I had never done before, and that was running a business full time and being a mother full time. To find that balance between motherhood and my career, that was my biggest fear. There's nothing like the feeling that I feel when I'm creating. I love tucking myself away and just letting my heart and my mind just go free. First, I would like people to think that wow, I've never seen anything like that before, and so when they're wearing it, I want them to feel like they're wearing something so eclectic, and witty, and outside of the box and special. I want a woman to feel empowered when she's using my products. One of my favorite parts about my job is getting that type of feedback from women who are like, you know, I placed your poster in this area in my room so that when I wake up, it's the first thing I see. Being a businesswoman and a mother, for the first time, I've had to learn what patience is. Once Soleil came, I had to really learn how to step back, being able to stop, completely, to focus 100% on this human that I'm responsible for. Once time goes by and you reflect on who you once were versus who you have become, it's incredible. I have seen my business completely evolve. I am Mothersun. I became a single mom, and all of a sudden, I was wearing all the hats myself, and I started to realize that I had always been the captain, the head of my ship. It was a cool process to really come into ownership of the captain. (upbeat beach rock music) (upbeat music)
