- Could you build a house without a blueprint? Sure, you can. But it would be very hard to estimate deadlines, to set up a budget, and it would be very confusing for anyone involved. The script or screenplay is the blueprint of any video project. And it includes the locations, dialogues, and even tools and props required to produce it. A script is very useful to estimate how much time we will need for production, as well as the time on screen. For example, one page on the script is usually one minute on screen. The script can be original or adapted from something else. There are industry standards in terms of font size, margins, page numbers, et cetera. There are many script writing software applications, but I find most of them too hard to use for non professional writers like me. One exception is Causality by Hollywood Camera Work.
