The work breakdown structure

- The work breakdown structure is a really critical step. It's sometimes called WBS and what it is, is the key to budgeting. It's where you take all of the work that has to be done and you break it down into smaller pieces so every major step is known. Effectively, you're identifying the tasks that have to be completed and you want to keep breaking these down into smaller pieces until you can accurately budget these. If it's too generalized, it's very difficult to expense out. A simple way of thinking of this is if you were putting on a barbecue for friends and you identified the exact menu that you were going to serve. You could then create a shopping list and a cost budget. It's important as you do this work breakdown structure that you show it to the client and members of the team.
